Cafe Chat

Update: 11-7... Today my mom is stable :)
Hello Cafe Community. I hope that today finds you enjoying the presence of the Lord. Today I am going to depart from my normal routine, which is me ask you a question, and you all blow me away with your answers :) Today will be a day that we can show brotherly or sisterly love and encouragement to each other.
Today my mother is having a very risky surgery. My mother has been through so much in the last decade of her life, and especially in the last 3 years. She had quadruple by-pass surgery a year ago, and then had a vascular surgery a few months after that. About a month ago it was decided that my mother would have to undergo another surgery. I am not going to take up a lot of time here today to go into all the details, but this surgery is very risky because of her current health status.
Over the last year, I have sent emails, posted information on my blog, and even sent out the information via Facebook to ask for prayers from the body of Christ for my mother. Can I say that when the body( meaning Christians) is operating under Christ's headship it is a beautiful thing. My family and especially my mother have been blown away by the many people that have offered up prayers on her behalf. Even people that do not know my mother have labored in prayer for her. We are overwhelmed.
Today, ultimately we know that my mother's life is held in God's hands and He will carry her through every step that is to come. May I ask you to pray for my mother today? Her name is Donna Powers. Any prayers you offer are coveted.
However, I want to finish today's post, by asking you to leave a prayer request in the comment section of today's post. How can we pray for you? It doesn't have to be a big request, any will do. My plans are to come back later and try to pray for all the requests left today. As so many have prayed for my family, it is a very small way to say thanks.
Also, can I challenge you to look at the requests today, and even if you don't get to pray for them all, would you pray for at least one person's request? Then stop by her/his website to let him/her know that you prayed for them. This is one way we can unite as sisters and brothers in Christ.
Be Blessed Today!!!

I am praying already, and will keep you all in my prayers throughout this day!

I stumbled over this blog at some point and I really enjoy reading it! That's one of the first things I do after arriving uni every day, and it makes me get the right focus for the day. Thank you to everybody posting!

I'd like to ask you to pray for my PhD and my future. Due to several factors my PhD projects have been delayed and I will not be able to finish this year, which is when I am supposed to finish. This last year has been very difficult and I have wanted to quit several times, but I have clearly felt God's hand in my life and His strong will for me to continue my PhD. Please pray that I am able to finish my PhD in God's time, and that He will give me patience to wait on Him but at the same time be efficient in my work. If I can glorify God by finishing a very challenging PhD that is ultimately what I want!

Thank you, Karianne

I just prayed for your mom and the rest of the family. I also prayed for those who are in the surgery room and those who will be taking care of her.

Please pray for my son, Nate, who has uncontrolled epilepsy. He still has about ten grand mal seizures a month, even while on four seizure medications. He has also had surgery to remove some of the scar tissue left from viral meningeal ensephalitis. The seizure still continue and are causing damage.

Thank you for your prayers.

Just prayed for your mom and the surgeons. I agree, this is an amazing community and I, too have been blessed to "meet" so many precious Christians since I started blogging a couple of months ago.

My prayer request is for our home school to run smoothly and for me to be patient as I teach my kids. We're adding Greek soon and I'm not sure how we'll fit it in, but know I'm determined to somehow.

Thank you!

I just prayed for your Mom and your family as well as those on the surgical staff.

My prayer request seems so selfish after I read the others here, but...I just need prayer for our finances. My husband got laid off 8 months ago, has since found a job, of course, not what he was making. I have fallen behind in house payments and don't know where the next one is coming from and no one knows but me. And to top it off, my daughter is getting married next week and I have to put on a brave face for everyone, but I'm just so tormented inside...I don't expect things to get perfect, but that God's will be done.

Thank you and I will keep your family in my prayers today and in the future.

God Bless!

I will be praying for Donna continuously...she is in the hands of THE Physician...the One that holds the same power that rose Christ from the dead. He is mighty to save!

As far as my prayer request...pray that I continue to grow closer to Christ each and every day in order to be His hands and feet. God has blessed me...even though I may walk through deep valleys...He is giving me all the grace and strength I need to walk forward in faith and run the ministry He has given to me. (ScriptureNow.com) My life is a continual prayer...the Spirit leading me to intercede on other behalf. I have see the most amazing miracles...some that are hard to believe myself...all from the power of God...through His faithful promises. (His Word)

A few words from God to your mother:

“I will be your God throughout your lifetime-
until your hair is white with age.
I made you , and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you.”
Isaiah 46:4

“…prayer offered in faith will heal the sick,
and the Lord will make them well.”
James 5:15

"I am the Lord who heals you.’”
Exodus 15:25

“I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.”
Psalm 16: 8

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you,
whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Trust in the Lord always,
for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.”
Isaiah 26: 3-4

I am praying for you mother and also the other requests made known here. My family is healthy and for that I am extremely thankful. We are also all employed which is a great blessing. I have a son who needs to come back home to Jesus and be released from addictions of smoking, drinking and homosexuallity. He is a good man, just on the wrong road.

I can relate to what you are going through. My dad had the same surgery as an emergency. He did not come out of surgery very well and we almost lost him a couple of times the 13 days he was in ICU. Six months later he's in the best health he's been in 30 years.

I'd like prayer for direction and courage in starting a business. And that I'd daily depend upon the Lord in this endeavor.

Glad to hear your mom is doing well. I visit the caf'e most every morning.
Ya'll are great inspiration for me. My prayer request is for my 20 yr old daughter. She just got her first "real" job and I praise God from Whom alllll blessings flow. She is easily discouraged, so I just pray that God will guide her and keep her on track. I appreciate any each prayers going up for her, her name is Amanda! Thanks a bunch and God bless! Lisa

This might be my favorite post yet Kim! I had no idea about your Mom and even as she is out and safe - my prayers for Donna (that is my Mom's name too) go up; and for all of you as you gather around her to encourage her healing. You are so precious friend...it should be ME thanking you for all you do!

I am so blessed, blessed beyond measure. My one prayer request is that God would show me how to serve somehow, somewhere - in the area of adoption. I have had a heart for adoption since I was a tiny girl. My precious Mr. H isn't ready to adopt but I know I can bless someone, somewhere...through prayer - or in some other God directed way :) I just ask for doors to open for me to do His will in this area.

Thank you for this Kim. It's a gift to be able to pray for friends here and a blessing to know how I can specifically pray. Blessings from Canada

Thank you for sharing about your mom. I will add her to my prayer list.

Please pray for employment for myself. My husband and I both lost our jobs 8 days apart from each other in May. He found another job at the end of July - but the income is not what he was making. I on the other hand have yet to find anything. I had what I thought was a great round of interviews for about 4 positions and nothing is happening. My faith in God will not waiver - but the enemy tries to instill doubt and fear in me and I do wonder where the income will come from to keep us from falling behind. Thank you so much!
