WARNING: Contents Under Pressure

It was an experiment, meant to teach and entertain several third graders and what emerged was a lesson in life for me...let me explain...

Many of you have seen THIS experiment... the supplies needed for success are few...a bottle of coke and a pack of mentos! If you have tried this at home, you know where I'm headed and if you have not...go on...give it a try! (or go to Utube and see a video, less mess!:))

What occurs is an amazing reaction, unbelievable really, that these tiny white candies could cause such an enormous reaction...and it got me thinking, sounds like me sometimes!

I see it in my life, imagine ME, the perfect blend, a one of a kind concoction, a secret recipe of the Lord...Everything is GOOD, just as HE intended me to be.

THEN.....

without warning, it sneaks in...tiny little things,(the Mentos in my life), a missed devotional, a jealous twinge, a misspoken comment, a knee-jerk reaction, a missed opportunity, an interruption...they slip into me, as the Mentos into the Coke ~

~AND THE RESULT IS AN EXPLOSION~

an emotional explosion...
and I feel like the Coke when it reacts with the Mentos..like my head is about to explode!

Thankfully, I am not Cola! I have been "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made!!" (psalm 139)
I was not made in a factory, but by a Creator who knows EVERYTHING about me, when I sit and when I stand.... I can NEVER escape from His Spirit, or get away from His presence....

Sometimes though, I let the 'Mentos' of my life get inside of me...and when that
happens, the EXPLOSIONS in my life, I have to turn to the ONE who " knows my heart, knows my anxious thoughts and can lead me to everlasting life." (from psalm 139)

I see it, I see the connection so clearly! I am a One of a kind, secret recipe and all I need to do is keep the Mentos out! Thankfully, HE never takes a break, HE is a constant companion, HE is always ready to meet me, wherever I am. All I need is HIM, to keep me in that place of peace, no matter what storms swirl about me, no matter the distractions or interruptions..CLINGING to HIM, it's as simple as that...

It's a visual that will stay with me for a LONG time, a reminder from the ONE who made me, perfect and peaceful... helping me every step of the way...keeping those 'pesky mentos out.'

Father, as I begin a new week, thanking you that you created me in your image...
Help me to recognize the distractions and interruptions that, without you, build up inside of me.
Walk with me Father, help me to stay in a place of peace, in union with you
that I may share the light of the Spirit inside of me
for each and everyone that I meet along the way. I know Father, I cannot handle the
pressure alone, but with you as my rock and my fortress, I can be all that you created me to
be.

Lori, Unbelievable analogy!!! I will undoubtedly "feed" on this all week. I can think of many "mento" Satan tried to throw into my life. Thanks for sharing this amazing devotion!

this was awesome lori - as many times as i've seen this done, i've never thought of the spiritual applications...

my kids have always been fascinated with this on 'mythbusters' :) i should also warn the same thing happens with diet coke and rolaids, but I won't go there.

from a fellow mentos girl,

Lisa

A great analogy describing how the little things build up pressure until it explodes. And makes a mess. Let's catch it before it makes a mess this time (at least that's my plan!)

Ugh, I wish I had no idea what point you were trying to make with this analogy! Unfortunately I do.

Thanks for the prayer and reminder!

Yes, I've done this with the kids. We all very anxiously went to the store to get our mentos, and then we set the coke off on the street.

I saw a video in which a guy ate a pack of mentos and drank a 2 litre coke. NOT GOOD!! :( Poor guy!
