Cafe Chat

Hello Cafe Chatters!!!
I wanted to do a video blog post today, but time slipped through my fingers, so I will try again next week. I will get right to today's questions, and I think the questions are easy to answer.
What is your favorite book in the Bible? Why is it your favorite? (Give specific details :)
See I told you the questions were easy, and I can't wait to read your answers.
Blessings, Kim

It's hard to pick a favorite, but Philippians has to be up there. I've memorized so many of the passages through the years because it's so filled with encouragement to the believer. Some of the greatest hits are as follows...

"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." 1:21

"Let this mind be in you wich was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father. 2:5-11

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure." 2:12-13

"Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you sine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I hae not run in vain or labored in vain. 2:14-16

"But what things were gain to me, these things I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all tings loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrections, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if by any means I may attain to the resurrection of the dead" 3:7-11

"Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid hold of me. Brethern, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." 3:12-14

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." 4:6-7

"Finally brethern, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you." 4:8-9

"For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and i know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." 4:11b-13

My favorite book is John. Because, it is filled with so much of Jesus' passion. I've read it three times and each time I find something new to uplift me.

Oh, I'm torn between two. Psalms is so full of praise and passion and prayer. It's honest, and I find that so encouraging. Philippians is simple and to the point--an uplifting letter with good instruction. So I'm offering my favorite OT and favorite NT book, and that's a far as I can narrow it down.

Happy Thursday! May you feel especially blessed today.

I have to say mine is probably Matthew, with a few specific Psalms, too. (God gave me #19!) My mind just jives with the way Matthew writes!

One of my favorite parts of Matthew is chapter 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." It reminds me of the Robert Frost poem "The Road Not Taken." I always visualize a tiny dirt path through the woods, surrounded with autumn leaves, leading up to an old garden gate. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

Oh, what a great question! Hands down - the book of James! When I read that book, I re-read it several times. This book - to me - sums up how I should live my life according to the Lord Jesus Christ.

One of my all time favorite scriptures - James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above.

Trials and Temptations
Listening and Doing
Favoritism Forbidden
Faith and Deeds
Taming the Tongue (much needed for me!)
Submit Yourselves to God
Warning to Rich Oppressors
Patience in Suffering
The Prayer of Faith

This book clearly spoke to me, and has stayed on my heart since!

Oh Kim - you know how to pick em! This isn't easy at all. :D

I honestly can't pick a favorite. One of my favorite stories is of Esther (I'm doing a study on her on my blog). An orphan girl who walked thru so many trials and yet she came out of this as a woman of beauty and strength. This book speaks to me, as a girl who fails all the time - God loves me beyond measure and desires me to become a woman of beauty and strength in Him. His plan for me is unique and mighty. Sigh...

I also love James. It is a book that just teaches right to my heart of hearts.

Then there is Isaiah...I love Isaiah. Proverbs is filled with wisdom, particularily if you are looking to instruct your tongue in the ways of wisdom and knowledge (which I always am...) ;)

Right this minute, today - my favorite scripture is held in this precious book mentioned above; Phil 4:8. I'm working so hard to dwell on the lovely and keep letting go of the ugly. God is so good...so faithful.

It's hard to pick a favorite book, but I would have to say the Gospel of John. It is so reflective of God's love for us. I particularly like Chapter 15.

I also like the Psalms, Esther, and Isaih.
