Is God Enough?

Every so often, I'll be reading through Scripture and a passage will just illuminate and jump out at me. It will grab a hold of me so firm that I will think on it for days and days whilst the Lord is showing me what it is He wants me to take from it.

Recently, Psalm 73 was just that passage.

If you have a few moments, go ahead and read through Psalm 73 to get the big picture. You can go here… I’ll wait for you.

Here is the part I want to really focus on…

"Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. “

Would you do me a favor and go back and reread those couple of verses, just one more time – this time a bit more slowly and reflective.

Do you really get what the Psalmist is trying to communicate here?

God is enough!

Oh, but Chelsey, you don’t understand. We have $5 in our bank account and two weeks until we get paid…

God is enough!

But, my child has been diagnosed with a life treating disease…

God is enough!

But, my husband just left me and I have four children to raise on my own…

God is enough!

But, I just had to bury my baby whom I only got to hold for just a short time…

God is enough!

But, I have just been diagnosed with cancer and my prognosis doesn’t look good…

God is enough!

But, we just found out that we can't have children

God is enough!

But, our home burned to the ground and we lost everything…

God is enough!

Do you get the point?

And no, I haven’t experienced all of those circumstances personally, but each one is a personal example from women I actually know. And, I can absolutely tell you that God was enough!

We have GOT to come to a place in our Christian walk that no matter what our circumstances, God is enough. HE is enough – more than enough. It is only when we come to this realization that we can truly "count it all joy" when we walk through circumstances of this life.

I can not begin to tell you how thankful and grateful my heart is that God is my portion, that HE is enough, for if he wasn’t I truly don’t know how I would make it in this world that’s not my home.

If you have a few more minutes, take a look at the video below. Barlow Girls sing a wonderful song that centers on Psalm 73, called My God’s Enough. I think you’ll be blessed! (I’ve printed the lyrics below so that you can follow along).

Psalm 73(My God's enough)(feat. Todd Agnew)

My God’s Enough

I've had enough of living life for only me
And reaching just for the things that keep destroying me
So sick of envying the lives of so many I see
Somehow believing that they have what I need

[Chorus:]
My God's enough for me
This world has nothing I need
In this whole life I've seen
My God's enough, enough for me

I can't explain why I suffer though I live for You
Those who deny You they have it better than I do
Cover my eyes now so that my heart can finally see
That in the end only You mean anything

Who have I in heaven but You
Nothing I desire but You
My heart may fail but not You
You are mine forever

What about you? Is HE enough?

Lord, you are my portion and my strength. You are my refuge when all else has crumbled around me. Help me to come to a place where, no matter the circumstance, you are ALWAYS enough for me. Give me the peace that I can only find when I rest in the saving grace of your Son.

Amen Chelsey! What a great post. Thankfully I have not experience a lot of those things either, and even though sometimes (in the natural) it feels like He isn't enough -- I would hate to ever go through ANYTHING without Him.

Bless you!

Amen! My peace and and my joy do not come from my circumstances but from my confidence and faith that my Father is with me in those circumstances!

Wow! If there is anything, anything that the Body of Christ needs to know today - really KNOW - it's this! Literally EVERYTHING pales in comparison the the fact that

"God is enough!"

You nailed it Sister. If we only "get" one thing today... if we can only memorize one bit of info today... May this be it.

"God is enough!" In every way. In every situation. And He wants to prove it to us!

Awesome Word today!

(PS - I tried to get the same idea across in this post:

I finished reading yours today and said, "THAT'S what I was trying to say!"

Thank You Lord, that You alone, are always more than enough!

You know I'm so glad that God placed in your spirit to release this on time word. Many people, even Christians need encouragement and to be reminded of God's promises and provisions for their lives. We may be living in a world that is going through a recession, but children of God don't and should not claim to live this way! We are more than conquerors and we being heirs with God, and joint-heirs with Jesus, we are already partakers of His divine inheritance! Hallelujah! So if we keep ourselves in the word and line up our way of thinking with that which is in the word, we can defeat the devil and claim that our God shall supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus! Thanks for your message of hope! What a wonderful testament of what God can do!

I needed this ,thank you.
I lost my husband 1 year and 8 months ago and God has been there for me.I found he had gone before me most of the time , preparing the way for everything I would need. Yet I find my self worrying if my money will stretch and last night my electricity went out for hours, he delivered me from the spirit of fear ,yet in the total darkness i almost got afraid. ( but not that heart pounding ,stomach butterflies kind like I used to ) I lit candles and turned on a flash lights.
Then my daughter came over to stay with me because her power was out. How like GOD. Your devotion reminded me of all this.
Thank you.

Chelsey, that is excellent, and so very true. But I think most people still don't fully grasp what you (and Scripture) are saying.

When we so quickly reach for that aspirin for our headache, because drugs can do better than the Living God, OUR Maker!

God, OUR Maker, thinks we should use the worlds way for "Mental Health" even though He created us, and knows our deepest inner most being. Because the worlds way of psychology and psychiatry can do better than Jesus!

Either Jesus is the way and ONLY way, or He is not!

That was AMAZING. I added it to my playlist on my devotional blog (Journey of Devotion). THANK YOU for sharing that.

As I was listening to it, the presence of the Lord was strong. Very strong. (I wept). God is good.
