Cafe Chat

(Due to technical difficulties, we will not be using "Mr. Linky" any longer. When participating in the "Cafe Chat" make sure to either answer the "Chat" questions directly in the comment section, or leave a comment on the "Cafe Chat" post that directs us to your site where you have answered the question... Thank you :)

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

First, I just want to thank all of you that participated in last week's "Cafe Chat". Many of you opened your hearts to our community and shared some of the very hurtful words that were said to you in your darkest times. As stated last week, our sharing was not to condemn those that have spoken hurtful words to us, but to shed light on how we should always strive to let Jesus be our guide when it comes to what we should say to those who are hurting so deeply.

Many of you last week went a step ahead and shared with the community words or actions that we can offer to those that are hurting. Well, that is exactly what we are going to do this week.

What are words or actions that we can share with those that are hurting around us? What are some words or actions that were given to you in your difficult times that were an encouragement to you?

Thank you all so much for sharing your hearts today with the Internet Cafe Community. Blessings to you.

Kim

I think the most important thing to do when someone is hurting is to listen. Being sincere and caring, willing to listen if and when they need to talk is so important.

Hi,I believe we are to speak God's words of encouragment to hurting people for we are to build up one another,to edify and give hope.

The most powerful and touching words we can share are our prayers. Whether we pray directly with someone or let them know we are praying for them - this is by far kinder and safer than anything that sounds like "I know how you feel" (I don't think we can know how anyone feels). We might say "I went through something similar once. Let me know if you want to talk about it."

When we pray, we should focus on prayers of intercession. Don't presume to know the answer, but trust God to provide what is needed. It is possible to sound vague but be supportive. I'm practicing what I'm preaching and working to be effective with this approach. I've been hurt and done my share of hurting, so I'm motivated to work on this in myself!

Blessings!
