Dressing Up

One of my favorite things to do growing up was playing dress-up. This seems to have been passed on to my 6-year-old daughter. She loves to get into her dress-up clothes, as well as her regular clothes and put together endless combinations. She will dance and twirl, and of course, loves to check herself out in the mirror. The various combinations create a "persona" for her.

As women, I think we carry that love of dressing up into our adult years. Who doesn't love getting the perfect outfit together for a date with your husband? I believe the little girl in all of us loves to clothe ourselves in beautiful, elegant things. While we take such care in our outward appearance, many times this surpasses the effort we take on clothing our souls.

Luke 12:21-23 reads:
He said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing."

While I think that we should strive to look attractive for our husbands and to honor the Lord with our appearance and health, we must not make this the focus of our primary efforts. We must strive to clothe our souls and be sanctified and used for His glory!

Ephesians 6:13-15 guides us:
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

So as you "dress-up," don't forget the most important parts of your wardrobe! Blessings!

Great post! As I get older I definitely am less obsessed with the outward and more concerned with the inner.

Kelly,
My girls loved playing dress up when they were little, and I miss it. Now they want to get dressed up for real... sigh.

Thank you for this beautiful reminder.
