Top 10

It’s the weekend! Woohoo!

Over the past few weeks I’ve been busier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Sorry, all you cat lovers.

What is it about the month of May? I find this month particularly stressful as many of our ordinary activities culminate and crescendo in a finale worthy of the White House.

Bible study ends next week. I must prepare for our end-of-the-year brunch. Brunch is not only a time to remember our experiences with God but an elaborate decorating contest to prove no center piece can be too large or ostentatious. ---I am centerpiece challenged! Send me your suggestions.

Every May, my daughter is included in a ton of extra curricular activities. A day trip to Disney Land, birthday parties, visits to museums, field trips, and band concerts. My daughter plays the flute.

From my tour around the blogosphere earlier this week, it is obvious I am not alone.

Post after post I empathized and sympathized with a number of you who are stressed out, weary, drained, fatigued and just plain wacky from the pace of it all. Perhaps it is just me who is wacky (likely).

So how do you know when it is time to stop, rest and spend time alone with our Savior. Some of my church friends got together and we comprised our own Top 10 list.

The Top 10 reasons you know it’s time for a rest and recharge: (These are real experiences)

10. You find yourself arguing with your three-year-old and she’s winning the conversation.
9. You start cutting the person’s food next to you and you realize it’s not one of your children.
8. Going to the grocery store is the highlight of your week.
7. All you can grow, is found on the leftovers in the refrigerator.
6. You throw on a cap to avoid getting your roots done.
5. The Ice Cream truck driver knows your order but not your children’s.
4. Your date with your husband ends up at Wal-Mart, and you’re both excited about it.
3. You’re hourly telling your kids, “Mommy needs a time out!”
2. The manager at Sees Candies says, “Oh, hi, you again, the usual two pounds?”

And, the number One Reason you know it’s time for a rest and a recharge:

You begin calling your hot flashes, “mini tropical vacations.”

Laughter and time alone with my Savior, is just the thing. With my Lord’s help, a hot Starbucks, and meaningful time alone with my bible and prayer journal, I will triumph. I will conquer the centerpiece, finish errand running, help with the birthday parties, and plan the camping trip.

God is good! All the time!

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Amen, Lord Jesus, Amen!

Hello Lynn,
Although I have "you" on my sidebar and I have occasionally stopped by to take a deep breath of Peace and Wisdom, this is the first time I actually read anything from beginning to end.
There are two points I felt I needed to tell you about. First your wit and sense of humor; all that you describe are so true, and so beautifully said. And second, your paragraph "Laughter...trip", spoke so much to my heart.
Visiting some wonderful Christian ladies over the past few months and reading your article now, makes me feel closer to God. Makes me feel that Jesus is not just for the big things, the big ideas the big theological and salvational issues. But more than that, if that may be said thus, is so much about our daily lives. You are making me discover this, CWO Ladies. Your article waked this feeling in me this morning as I stopped, made myself a cup of tea and stopped to read through. I want to thank you and thank Jesus for that. I have read in my Cheryl Richardson card deck just this morning that People are messangers of Grace.
Jesus sent you to me this morning.
God bless you,
Irene

Hah! I love it.

Yeah, May is crazier than December around here. I was updating my purse calendar so it, you know, looks like the one in my computer. I noticed I was having to write really teeny to cram in all the stuff going on this month.

Then June is like, totally empty. Blank. Nada. I can't wait!

You crack me up...Date ending at WalMart - ouch...Yeah, I think it certainly is time to recharge. But I so agree, we get so busy with life itself we forget many important things -- time with Jesus and time with our beloved...

Thank you for putting a smile on my face this morning.

Oh, Lynn...wasn't I just saying to a friend yesterday (we ducked out of life long enough for a quick lunch out together) that May is "worse" than December. It's not really "worse". All these busy things are "all good". And...when we sign up for them in September, they CLEARLY all fit on the calendar in the appropriate slots. May is just a convergence zone of sorts.

I'm in Cyprus right now. I don't even really know where Cyprus is, but I'm there because I need a break. My friend's husband used to be in the Air Force. He had to go many places far away and stay for long periods of time, but Cyprus was the longest assignment, for 12 or 15 months. In raising her kids mostly by herself during that time, she was understandably in need of A BREAK when he returned. The standing joke was that it was her turn to go to Cyprus.

My hubby was in China 3 weeks ago, and he goes again in 3 weeks. The last 2 weeks have been busyness central at our domicile. Sooo...He and the kids are at Blockbuster, and I'm in Cyprus. It looks very much like my computer/scrap/quilt land, but it's Cyprus to me.

Love the verse you picked. I think it's my all time fave.

Blessings and hugs. Gretchen
