I will not be Shaken

He alone is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my fortress - I will not be shaken. (Psalm 62:2)

A few years ago my husband and I were talking about trust in relationships. I thought about the conversation for a while and then I made a pretty bold statement. I said,

"Even if someone showed me a photograph of you in a compromising situation, I would not believe it!"

I'd sooner believe that the photo was some photoshop trick before I'd believe that he'd do something dishonest or be unfaithful. It's not that I thought he was incapable of mistakes - every human is capable.

It's just that I trusted him so completely that I'd sooner search for another explanation rather than believe the worst of him - regardless of the "evidence." I would trust what I KNOW about him, and not what my eyes 'think' they see.

I believe that we should offer the same type of commitment and trust to God.

Every day that we live on this planet we will be offered some bit of "evidence" that God is off His game and shouldn't be trusted. Every loss that we experience, every disappointment we endure and every offense flung in our direction is a bit of "evidence" (according the the enemy) that God will most likely not do what He has promised - that He is not good - that He does not really care for us . . . that we are alone.

When we are hurt or confused or disappointed or tired or losing hope, the devil is there to offer an explanation . . . He tells us that God is neither good nor trustworthy. He has us ponder our circumstances (his "evidence" ) so that we might conclude that we shouldn't trust our maker and should, instead, devise our own solutions to life's craziness.

So, I think that today is a good day to stare the "evidence" in the face and declare what we know to be true. Today is a good day to shake off the lies about our God that the enemy plants in our hearts during our weaker moments. Today. Yes, today we look the enemy in the eye and tell him that his "evidence" does not move us. His "evidence" can not shake us. And we declare what we know:

Our God is Faithful. He is Good. He loves us. His plan is perfect. His decisions are just. His mercy is never ending. He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. . . . Regardless of what the "evidence" to the contrary says.

He alone is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. (Psalm 62:2)

Reflections:

1 - What "evidence" has the enemy used to convince you that you are not deeply loved by God?

2 - How easily do you believe the enemies lies about God's goodness?

3 - What particular "evidence" is the enemy using right now to plant seeds of doubt or fear or unbelief?

In Him
. . .

Words come when we always need them the most. I read this thru tears after paying bills and wondering where the money was coming from to pay taxes tomorrow. I am so weak, but God is so strong and always there. Amen!

I am trusting in God to give me what I need for each moment. On May 18, 2009 my son Daniel age 22 passed away a year ago. I have had to face each day holding onto God's promises, He will never leave me nor forsake me.

This could not have come at a better time. Thank you for your reassuring words. I will praise him in this storm and trust in his promises even though everything in me screams to do the opposite.
