Cafe Chat - November 1

Today’s chat will be a little different than normal. I am going to ask you to look at a poem recently written by Max Lucado, and then let me know what emotions are evoked in you after reading the poem.

You Have Our Attention, Lord
A prayer by Max Lucadowritten in October

Our friends lost their house
The co-worker lost her job
The couple next door lost their retirement
It seems that everyone is losing their footing

This scares us.
This bailout with billions.
These rumblings of depression.
These headlines: ominous, thunderous-“Going Broke!” “Going Down!” “Going Under!” “What Next?”

What is next?
We’re listening.
And we’re admitting: You were right.
You told us this would happen.

You shot straight about loving stuff and worshipping money.
Greed will break your heart, you warned. Money will love you and leave you.
Don’t put your hope in riches that are so uncertain.
You were right.
Money is a fickle lover and we just got dumped.

We were wrong to spend what we didn’t have,
Wrong to neglect prayer and ignore the poor,
Wrong to think we ever earned a dime.
We didn’t. You gave it.
And now, tell us Father, are you taking it?

We’re listening. And we’re praying.
Could you make something good out of this mess?
Of course you can.
You always have.

You led slaves out of slavery, Built temples out of ruins, Turned stormy waves into a glassy pond and water into sweet wine.
This disorder awaits your order.
So do we.

Through Christ,Amen

Blessings,
Kim

It's almost depressing at first when you start reading it. But then we are reminded in the end that God is there and can work all things for good, according to His purpose. When I remember this, I know it's all in God's hands and so am I.

It is the harsh picture of our world, then perfectly contrasted against God's ability to rescue us from our mess. At first it reads as hopeless as this mess looks to everyone and then you are reminded that with God nothing is hopeless.

Great poem and greatly needed during this time. Peace only comes from God. Nothing else will ever do!
Thanks for sharing.

It just hit me how the Bible is so accurate in what goes on in the world today, written many years ago! I cannot believe how the Isrealites can turn their back on God yet what is our society doing? It humbles me and makes me thankful we have a faithful God who loves us and wants us to come to him. Discipline is never easy.

This poem is amazing. So true with all that has been going on and with so many people affected by bad choice, greed and indifference. But God is always faithful. Faithful to save us while teaching us the valuable lessons that we need to learn even through suffering and hardship. We may ask "why God? why me? why now?" And though it may seem like there is no answer, rest assured that time, patience, humility and perseverance in doing what is right will answer those questions.
Notice those "Aha" moments when you look back and realize that God was there all along? That moment will come even when we are struggling to see past the ambiguity of our circumstances. Just watch and remain strong in the Lord because afterall He is the only hope we really have. The only Father that will direct us in the right way we should go.
