Worry Wart

I have a wart.

It's a nasty thing I can't get rid of.

I've tried everything, but it hangs on.

And before I completely gross you out with a photograph, I'm talking figuratively.

Because even I am not comfortable enough to share my growths with you.

Not that I have many, I mean, any.

I am a worry wart.

Always have been.

I worry about my kids and their health. Not that they aren't healthy. They are. But what if . . .

And that's what gets me. Did you know I saw a small bruise on my toddler's spine the other day and said to my hubby, "Let's watch that. If she gets more bruising on her spine, it's a sign of Leukemia."

My hubby was speechless.

I know that because I've googled it. Why? I like to hit my fears head-on.

I've taken my son to the doctor three times for a small fatty lump on his neck he was born with. She has assured me that the cyst is nothing to worry about.

Yeah, tell that to my keen sense of doom.

I worry about money, my hubby's job security, my health and his. I worry about too friendly neighbors and pedophiles moving into my town.

Do you know if worrying accomplished anything, I'd be very productive.

But it doesn't. As a matter of fact, it is counter-productive.

Plus it makes you feel crummy.

And with the tumor that might be growing in my brain, I don't want to feel crummy.

I'm sure my deep struggle for control fuels my worry gland.

And I know as a Christian when I worry, I'm actually putting my faith in myself rather than God. And that doesn't work so well. Because I'm not God.

It comes down to trust. Do I trust the One who made me? The One who created my children perfectly within me?

We cannot change a thing worrying about it. And so, with God's help, I'm living each day, trusting Him, one day at a time.

The Bible addresses worry. I turn to these passages when my mind turns to worry:

Matthew 6:27-29

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

Philippians 4:6-7

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

We have been given the perfect wart-remover. Prayer, it's the cure for worrying.

Prayer:

God thank you for providing an answer to my worrying heart. I know that I cannot add a single moment to my life or change a thing when I worry. Please help me to pray about everything, so that your peace will reign in my heart. I want to trust you with everything.

This used to be me!! Do I still worry about things?? Of course, I do!! Then I remember--take this to God in prayer. He is in control--I am not!

Thank you for helping me to always keep this in my mind.

One day as I was counseling a worrying friend over a troubled marriage, I shared with her what the LORD said to my heart, "If you are really concerned about your tomorrow, TRUST the One Who is already there."

He reminds me of that very often for myself...and also praying for OTHERS when I myself am anxious with worry is always a tremendous blessing and calming relief for my spirit...

This post sounds exactly like me! The worrying has been a HUGE struggle for me, mostly about health concerns. I find the tiniest thing, obsess over it, and make myself feel sick with worry. I am still learning to let go of the worry, and trust God. Thank you for this post!

Prayer is indeed the cure. I struggled greatly w/ anxiety for years. After becoming a Christian, the first verse I memorized was Philippians 4:6-7. I can't tell you how many times I recited that verse. God has led me through that battle and I have not struggled w/ anxiety in some time now. I still worry from time to time... and I still know that verse by heart.

Great post. Your right, worrying is not productive, it's also not what God wants for us. Cast them on Him, one worry at a time.

Very, very true! I'm like that, to the point of if I don't have something to worry about, I worry about what I'm not worrying about! LOL Very counter-productive, yes! Bless you for sharing this 'wart' with us! Off to twitter this!

I struggle with worry too. As a Christian, I know who I belong to and how capable He is. It helps me to spend time each morning with Him reading His Word and praying. I need to tell Him about everything I'm concerned about and then leave it in His very capable hands. Thanks for this post.

Worry is a thief. It steals all of our todays. Thank you for the reminder. I want to KEEP my today and not waste it on all of the 'what-ifs'. Carmen's comment was also awesome,
"Trust your tomorrow to the ONE who is already there!"

What a great reminder that worring doesn't do anything but take away from all that Jesus wants us to be!

This is soooooo me. I am such a worrier. I make myself sick to my stomach with all of the worrying I do.

A few months ago I worrying about this HUGE thing. I worked at this problem, talked to others about it, etc. It kept getting worse and was keeping me up at night. All of a sudden I realized I had not even prayed about this issue. I prayed about it and about a week later everything was solved. Sometimes I think God gives me problems because I need to be reminded to depend on Him for everything.

Great post!!

I struggle with worry, but the minute it overtakes me I go to this verse:
Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!"

It reminds me of who is in control:)
God Bless!
