Word of God Speak

One of my favorite worship songs is "Word of God Speak" by MercyMe. Don't you long to hear God speak to you? Don't you want His Word to "pour down like rain?"

As the new year begins, I am one of those people who likes to set goals for the year to come-I really desire to not be in the same place at the end of the year as where I begin. If I do not reflect and purpose those goals, I seem to let time just slip away. Two of my top goals are related to the reading and memorization of scripture. I have been convicted by the Lord and inspired by others to go deeper in His word.

Hebrews 4: 12 reads:

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

His word is alive and speaking! In a world that sends so many anti-biblical messages, I know I must be solidly grounded in His word for direction-for myself and for my ability to minister to my family and others God places in my life.

Psalm 19:7-8 reads:

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The comands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

It is refreshing to read this when we face so much in society that preaches "no absolutes." I find it wonderful to have a solid platform on which to stand. his word is perfect, trustworth, right--giving "light to our eyes" so that we have direction!

So as we all look to the coming, I pray that we will let the "word of God speal" into our lives and witness firsthand its transformative power!

In Him,

Kelly

We do need to let the Word of God come into our lives! We also need to look at where we are today so that we can be closer to God at the end of each year! Thanks for a great post! God Bless!

It's refreshing to hear someone maintain that there are absolutes. The old saying, "Stand for something or fall for everything" has never been more relevant than today. Yes, I want to hear his voice each day, all day long!

I agree that knowing the scriptures is helpful. I used to go to a faith class at our church. I love it! Then, the pastor that led it left the church and we haven't had a class since then. I miss it. Thanks,Cindi

I very much need to work harder on scripture memory. I'm very bad about generally knowing where something is located or how it is worded. The Holy Spirit can't bring to recollection something that's not stored in our brain to begin with! So let's just say I'm going to commit to giving Him more to work with :)

Great post, Kelly!

We are getting ready to start Priscilla Shirer'ss study, "He Speaks to Me" and I'm so excited about it! As she says, "we need to clear out the noise in our broadcast signals, so we can be ready to hear from Him." I'm ready!!!

Thank you for your words today. I have set a goal of reading the Bible in a year. Day 5 and 360 to go. I love the fact that I can cross of the days and time will fly. Good luck with your goals.

God's Word is the only constant. All else will fail and disappoint. God's word revive us and gives us hope. I thank God that we are able to have an entire Bible in our hands for there are countries that can't "legally" have a Bible. God's Word is my guide, my comfort, my life.

Thank you for the great post this morning...memorizing scripture has always been hard for me...I write it off as I'm just too old and my brain doesn't work that way anymore. Thank you for challenging me with your words. I'm convicted that there could be a time in my life that all the Scripture I have available to me for comfort and help would be those that I've memorized. I'm afraid it would be a very sad little list. B.

The song moves me to tears!
This part got me writing in my journal of wise words...

His word is alive and speaking! In a world that sends so many anti-biblical messages, I know I must be solidly grounded in His word for direction-for myself and for my ability to minister to my family and others God places in my life.

I live for this!
thank you Kelly for sharing this!!

I love that song, too! It is so rich. Your post also made me think of the song, The Word is Alive by Casting Crowns. It is on their new CD, The Altar and the Door. It is another rich song!
This year, I am committing to knowing God more through the study and memorization of His word. Hopefully, I will be more committed at this than I have in the past.
Thanks for sharing!

Amen and amen Kelly!

You are so right, the time will slip right by if we don't purpose in our hearts to change. Been there, done that!

I LOVE that song too. It is one of my "staples" in my ipod. It always brings my heart right back where it should be.

Great word.
Blessings,
Sue
